WhatsApp Visual Flow Builder — Button/List Click Handling
Introduction
We're excited to announce an enhancement to our WhatsApp Visual Flow Builder, a powerful tool for creating interactive, multi-step conversations without writing any code. This update significantly improves how the system handles button and list taps, ensuring a smoother and more reliable user experience.
Feature Highlights
- Robust Button/List Tap Recognition: Ensures that a button or list item tap is always correctly interpreted and advances the flow along its designated path, regardless of the current conversational state or what the flow is actively waiting for.
- Intuitive Visual Design: Build complex WhatsApp conversations by dragging and dropping various node types (Start, Text Message, Reply Buttons, List Menu, Input, Condition, Template, Human Handoff, End Chat) and connecting them visually.
- Configurable Input Handling: Define specific input types (text, date, number, email, phone, regex) and set timeouts for each input node, preventing conversations from getting stuck or misinterpreting user responses.
How to Use
- Open a WhatsApp Agent and navigate to the Flow Builder tab.
- Drag and drop various nodes onto the canvas, such as Start, Text Message, Reply Buttons, List Menu, Text/Date/Image/Location Input, Condition, Template, Human Handoff, and End Chat.
- Wire these nodes together using edges to define the conversational flow.
- Publish the flow to activate it for incoming WhatsApp messages.
- Observe how incoming WhatsApp messages are routed through this graph; tapping any button or list item will now reliably advance the flow along that button's own edge, irrespective of the conversation's current waiting state.
Benefits
- Codeless Conversation Building: Users can construct sophisticated, multi-step WhatsApp conversations visually, eliminating the need for complex coding.
- Reliable User Interaction: Button and list taps are consistently recognized and processed correctly, preventing misinterpretations or lost interactions, even during ongoing conversations or after the session has progressed.
- Prevent Stuck Conversations: Per-node input validation and configurable timeouts ensure that conversations flow smoothly and users are not left in ambiguous states.
Example Workflow
A customer initiates a chat with a WhatsApp Agent. The agent's flow builder presents a list menu for "Product Inquiry," "Support," or "Billing." The customer taps "Support." Even if the system was technically waiting for a text input on a previous step, the tap on "Support" is immediately honored, and the flow proceeds to the support-specific branch, perhaps asking for a brief description of the issue. This ensures a seamless and intuitive interaction, always respecting the user's explicit choices.
Result
Users can now confidently build and deploy WhatsApp conversational flows where button and list interactions are consistently and accurately handled, leading to more robust, user-friendly, and efficient automated customer service experiences.
